An enchanting and colorful spectacle has taken over Hyderabad's Old City. Once limited to festivities like Makar Sankranti, kite flying has now become a major nighttime event. Goshamahal and Begumbazar, in particular, have embraced this trend, with thousands of people gathering to partake each night.

Lights Towards the Sky

As the sun sets, the entire area transforms. Bright lights are positioned on rooftops, pointing directly skyward to ensure kites are visibly dancing in the sky. Amidst this brilliance, the kites paint a stunning picture against the dark sky, attracting both locals and visitors from other city parts.

Rooftops Rented for Millions

The craze has visibly impacted real estate. Many homeowners have rented out their rooftops for night-time kite flying, with rents soaring to millions of rupees. These rooftops have become central hubs of entertainment and celebration, no longer just part of a house.

Festival-like Vibes with Lights, Food, Music, and Volunteers

Ensuring safety and facility convenience is crucial during these nighttime events. Volunteers manage many locations, and local vendors thrive. The sale of kites, strings, lighting gear, and food and drinks has surged.

15 Years of Efforts for This Recognition

Raja Singh, MLA from Goshamahal, attributed this trend to years of hard work. After around 15 years of continuous efforts, night kite-flying in Begumbazar and Goshamahal has gained recognition. According to him, nighttime kite-flying has become more vibrant and competitive than daytime activities.

In conclusion, nighttime kite-flying in Hyderabad's Old City is not just a new hobby. It has blossomed into a cultural festival, revitalizing social interaction and fueling the local economy.
