The political crisis in Manipur has seen a resolution with the appointment of a new leadership. In a meeting of BJP legislators, Y. Khemchand Singh from the Meitei community was elected as the new leader, and he will now step into the role of Chief Minister of the state.
A significant aspect of this government is the appointment of Nemcha Kipgen as Deputy Chief Minister. Hailing from the Kuki community, Kipgen's selection is seen as a major step towards easing ethnic tensions and restoring harmony in the region.
Upon his appointment, Khemchand Singh expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah, emphasizing his priority to respect Manipur's diversity and foster empathy and compassion among the communities. He promised peace and inclusive development with a vision of a 'Developed Manipur'.

Who is Nemcha Kipgen?
Representing the Kangpokpi region since 2012, Nemcha Kipgen is a prominent figure in Manipur's politics. She has held significant ministries, such as Social Welfare in the previous government and currently Commerce and Industry.
Many leaders, including Independent MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam, hope that appointing a Kuki woman as Deputy CM will bring prosperity to the state. Earlier, at a meeting in New Delhi, 35 out of 37 BJP MLAs, along with NPP, NPF, and independent legislators, endorsed the names of Khemchand and Kipgen.
