Pune-Mumbai Expressway Clogged for 24 Hours, Thousands Stuck, Watch Video

After a gas tanker overturned in Khandala Ghat, traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been at a standstill for 24 hours. There’s a 20 km long jam trapping thousands of travelers. Due to gas leakage, the lane to Mumbai is closed. NDRF and other teams are actively working on relief operations.

The traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway remains severely congested over 24 hours later. Around 5 PM on Tuesday, a gas tanker filled with chemicals overturned in the lane towards Mumbai near the Adoshi Tunnel in Khandala Ghat. After the accident, the tanker began leaking gas, creating a hazardous situation throughout the area.

Traffic coming from Mumbai has been completely shut down for safety reasons. The effects of this can be seen in both directions, with queues extending up to 20 to 22 kilometers. Drone footage clearly shows thousands of vehicle drivers and passengers stuck.

Jam Extends 20 to 22 Kilometers

Some people have been stuck since 4 AM, while others have been trapped since 3 or 5 AM. Due to this massive jam, many travelers missed their flights. The lack of water, food, and toilets is causing severe distress among the stranded people. Travelers demand immediate action from the authorities to reopen the highway.

Highway police officer Tanaji Chekhale stated that the Mumbai lane has been closed, considering the security risks from the gas tanker leakage. NDRF, BPCL, and other relief teams are working tirelessly at the site.

According to the administration, the situation is expected to remain this way until 2 PM today. Drivers are being advised to use alternative routes. Traffic disruptions may continue until the gas leakage is entirely resolved.
