Rumors of a minister getting ensnared in a honey trap in Karnataka have sparked a major political controversy. Allegedly, around 48 politicians, including central leaders, have been caught in such political snares.
Karnataka's Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna acknowledged in the assembly that at least 48 politicians, including central leaders, have been entangled in honey traps, leading to intense discussions. He clarified that this issue isn't confined to just one political party and called for a thorough, high-level investigation.
Minister Rajanna emphasized that according to the information available to him, not just one or two, but as many as 48 individuals have fallen victim to CDs and pen drives. He clarified that when he says 'one,' he doesn't mean solely his faction's members, hinting at the involvement of opposition members too. He highlighted that Karnataka is infamously referred to as the factory of CDs and pen drives, a sentiment echoed by many before him.
'The Truth Must Come Out'
Minister Rajanna stated in the assembly that he would file a written complaint with the Home Minister, demanding an extensive investigation into this conspiracy. He stressed the necessity of uncovering who is behind these occurrences, who orchestrates them, and to what end? Rajanna's son and MLC Rajendra Rajanna noted that efforts to ensnare leaders have been underway for the past six months. Calls and messages on WhatsApp aim to entangle them in a trap. We must await the investigation's results.
Congress Leaders Break Silence
Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi confirmed this issue, noting that a Karnataka minister faced two failed honey trap attempts. He stated that such antics have no place in politics, yet some exploit them for political gain.
Questions Raised by the Opposition
The BJP called for immediate action, with opposition leader R. Ashok demanding the investigation be led by a sitting judge. He urged the government to exhibit seriousness, suggesting that the Home Minister immediately clarify how they would probe the matter. BJP leader C.T. Ravi also called for the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), arguing that with senior Congress ministers themselves bringing up the issue, it cannot be dismissed lightly. BJP MLA Sunil Kumar questioned whether the government itself is running this honey trap factory? If the government is part of the conspiracy, who will grant justice to the public?
Case Reaches the Chief Minister's Office
According to sources, a minister trapped in a honey trap complained to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, citing deliberate targeting due to their outspoken nature within the government.
Truth Will Emerge Post-Investigation
The political atmosphere in Karnataka has become tense over this issue. Amid mounting pressure on the government, Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that he would seek information and request a report from the pertinent department. He mentioned that no one has informed him yet, but if a complaint is lodged, action will be taken.
