Indian Nationals Trafficked Amidst Russia-Ukraine Conflict, CBI Launches Swift Action

Amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict, there have been reports of Indian casualties. So far, two young Indians have lost their lives, both claimed to have been deceitfully recruited into the Russian military.

Enticed by lucrative salaries and glamorous lifestyles, Indians are being tricked into joining the deadly Russia-Ukraine war. According to media reports, most people aren't told before arriving in Russia that they will be sent into the warzone. Once in Russia, they are made to sign a contract, in Russian, stating they will work as helpers with the Russian army for a monthly salary of 200,000 rupees.

The syndicate is now under the CBI's scrutiny. To crackdown, the investigative agency raided 13 locations across Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Ambala, Chandigarh, Madurai, and Chennai on March 7. To date, 35 cases have come to light, involving social media channels, acquaintances, and agents who have falsely promised high-paying jobs to lure youths to Russia.

The first case involves Hemil Ashwin Bhai Mangukiya from Surat, who died while fighting. It is claimed that his death occurred during a missile attack by Ukraine. At 23, Hemil was connected to the Russian army as a 'helper,' where he was reportedly earning a salary of 50,000 rupees per month. Hemil's last contact with his family was on February 20.
