During the 54th Victory Day celebrations, the Indian Army showcased a Turkish-built YIHA kamikaze drone. This drone was utilized by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor to attack Indian cities, where it was shot down by the Indian forces.
Victory Day is observed on December 16 each year to honor the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice against Pakistan in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.
At the ceremony held on Monday, a video featured the reassembled YIHA drone at the residence of Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. In May, during Operation Sindoor, Pakistan deployed several YIHA kamikaze drones for lethal strikes on Indian military and civilian targets.
The drone targeted at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters. Launched from Lahore International Airport, it was headed towards Jalandhar. Equipped with around 10 kilograms of explosives, it was remotely controlled and detonated upon impact.
The Indian Army's air defense successfully intercepted the drone near Amritsar, preventing it from reaching its target. Operation Sindoor commenced on the midnight of May 7, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

Subsequently, after exchanges on both sides, Pakistan requested a ceasefire and contacted the Indian Director of Military Operations. An agreement was reached to end the four-day conflict on May 10. While U.S. President Donald Trump claimed to have facilitated the ceasefire, India categorically rejected this assertion.
Moreover, on the occasion of Victory Day, President Droupadi Murmu participated in the 'At Home' reception hosted by General Dwivedi at the Army House, attended by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
