On April 28, in the presence of French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu, India and France are set to ink the largest defense contract yet for the sale of 26 Rafale Marine aircraft for the Indian Navy. Sources indicate that senior officials from both nations will be present at the signing of this monumental agreement, set to be held outside the Defense Ministry's headquarters at South Block.

When Was the Deal Approved?

Sources revealed that the French minister is expected to arrive in India on Sunday evening and will likely return on Monday evening. Earlier this month, on April 9, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Security approved the largest government-to-government agreement with France for 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets.

This government-to-government contract includes 22 single-seater and four twin-seater jets, alongside a comprehensive package for fleet maintenance, logistic support, personnel training, and the construction of indigenous components. These combat aircraft will operate from the INS Vikrant, supporting the existing MiG-29K fleet.
