Team India Squad Announcement Live, T20 World Cup 2026:

The announcement for the Indian team for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 was made on Saturday, the 20th of December. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team, while Shubman Gill, struggling with form, is left out. Axar Patel has been named vice-captain.

The 15-member team includes wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and middle-order batsman Rinku Singh. Ishan makes a comeback to the team after nearly two years, rewarded for his excellent performance. The selection meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, followed by a press conference where BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia announced the team. Ajit Agarkar and captain Suryakumar Yadav were also present at the press meet.

The exclusion of Shubman Gill is surprising as he was vice-captain until the South Africa series. He is now paying the price for poor form. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are set to take on opening duties. Jitesh Sharma, too, is not part of the 15-member squad. This squad will also partake in the upcoming five-match T20 series against New Zealand in January.

The T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The tournament begins on February 7, with the final match scheduled for March 20. The defending champions, India, are placed in Group A, which includes teams from the USA, Namibia, Netherlands, and Pakistan.

An interesting point is that Team India will play their group matches in four different stadiums. Their group matches will be held at Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi), Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo), and Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad).
