In the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur was part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Originating from Mumbai, Shardul went unsold during the mega auction for IPL 2025. However, his fortune turned mid-season when he was recruited as an injury replacement by LSG.
Nonetheless, Shardul Thakur will not be part of the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. He has been traded to the Mumbai Indians (MI), the five-time IPL champion team, meaning he will represent them in the next season. Both franchises agreed on this decision, with Shardul being traded to MI for 2 crore INR.
It's noteworthy that LSG had acquired Shardul Thakur for 2 crore INR for IPL 2025. During the season, Shardul played 10 matches, claiming 13 wickets at an average of 28.84. He consistently offers valuable contributions to whichever franchise he represents.
What is Shardul's IPL Record Like?
Shardul Thakur has represented teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rising Pune Super Giants (RPS), and Delhi Capitals (DC). With Mumbai Indians, he’s set to join his seventh IPL team.
The 34-year-old Shardul has so far amassed 325 runs in 105 IPL matches with an average of 11.60, while taking 105 wickets at an average of 30.31. His best bowling figures stand at 4/34.
Sherfane Rutherford Switches Teams Too
West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford is also joining Mumbai Indians. Previously traded from Gujarat Titans (GT), Rutherford is joining MI for 2.6 crore INR. Rutherford has played in 23 IPL matches and has earlier been part of Delhi Capitals in 2019 and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2022.
