The first test match of the series between India and South Africa commenced on November 14 (Friday) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. On the second day (November 15), India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made history. 'Sir' Jadeja achieved a feat only managed by three other legends worldwide.
Ravindra Jadeja has reached the milestone of 4000+ Test runs and 300+ wickets in Test cricket. Before Jadeja, only Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, and Daniel Vettori achieved this. Leading the pack, England's Ian Botham scored 5200 runs and claimed 383 wickets in Test cricket. India’s legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev follows with 5248 runs and 434 wickets. New Zealand's Daniel Vettori also had an impressive performance with 4531 runs and 362 wickets.
Jadeja reached this landmark the moment he scored his 10th run in this Test match. Remarkably, Jadeja achieved this milestone in just 87 Tests, the second-fastest among the four players. Only Ian Botham accomplished this faster, in his 72nd Test. Jadeja has scored over 4000 runs and taken 338 wickets across 88 Test matches.
KL Rahul also reaches 4000 Test runs
Left-handed all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja becomes the 19th Indian batsman to complete 4000 Test runs. During the same match, opening batsman KL Rahul also completed his 4000 Test runs.
Considering both statistics and performance, Ravindra Jadeja currently stands several steps ahead of any present-day all-rounder. Initially starting his career as a bowling all-rounder, Jadeja has gradually established himself as a reliable and exceptional Test batsman.
Ravindra Jadeja excels against both fast and spin bowling, which has allowed him success in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). His Test cricket record includes 6 centuries and 27 half-centuries. Considering his consistent performance and all-round skills, he is genuinely ICC's number one Test all-rounder. Jadeja has joined the ranks of Kapil Dev and is now counted among Test cricket's greatest all-rounders.
