A terrifying scene of chaos and loss has unfolded in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, following a devastating cloudburst. An estimated loss of around 8 billion rupees has been reported. In places like Karsog and Dharampur, the deluge claimed the lives of four individuals, with 16 others missing. Meanwhile, 117 people have been rescued, as roads, bridges, and crossings have vanished, swept away by relentless rains that show no signs of abating.
Multiple Cloudburst Events
This disaster has resulted in 18 homes being damaged, 12 cow shelters engulfed, and 30 cattle swept away. These numbers reflect the situation as of 1 PM. Mandi district has witnessed several cloudbursts, especially in Gohar region, devastating two homes. While numerous people have been rescued, many remain unaccounted for. In Dharampur, six homes succumbed to the raging waters, along with the destruction of eight cow shelters. The monsoonal menace has made Mandi district the epicenter of chaos, with the Beas River swelling menacingly.

Nearly 8 Billion Rupees in Damages in Two Weeks
The scale of destruction witnessed in Himachal Pradesh is unprecedented, with estimates indicating property damages and losses nearing 8 billion rupees within the first two weeks. Rainfall in June exceeded averages by 37%, and the downpour is expected to continue until July 6, with more rains forecasted on July 2 and 3 for many areas.

Rain Expected to Continue
The districts of Mandi, Kangra, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Solan, and Shimla have reported rainfall above average. Recordings show 123 mm in Pandoh, 120 mm in Mandi, 110 mm in Shimla, and 80 mm in Palampur. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall is issued for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Kullu, while an orange alert warns of potential downpours in specific areas of Una, Bilaspur, Mandi, Hamirpur, Chamba, and Kangra.
