The US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, has confirmed that only an 18% tariff will be levied on goods manufactured in India. This development came after President Trump and PM Modi conversed on Monday evening, prompting a reduction in the tariffs imposed on India. However, there was some uncertainty whether the US lowered just the reciprocal tariff or the overall tariff to 18%.

For clarity, India Today conducted an exclusive interview with Sergio Gor. When asked about the extent of the tariff reduction, Gor clearly stated that the final figure would be 18%, meaning a total tariff of just 18% on India. But the full implementation of this number might take some time.

In fact, the US has imposed an additional tariff of 25% on India due to its oil purchases from Russia. Gor clarified that if India ceases to buy oil from Russia, the overall tariff will be 18%, effectively lowering the tariffs from a total of 50% to 18%.

However, Gor emphasized that achieving this final 18% tariff figure would take time due to necessary paperwork and technicalities. The process will also consider India's stance on Russia, but eventually, the final number will be 18%.
