The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding urgent measures to ensure swift supply of fertilizers in the state. He emphasized that untimely supplies could pose significant challenges for farmers.

In his letter, CM Stalin highlighted that Tamil Nadu is one of the country's leading rice-producing states. The state government prioritizes boosting agricultural output and improving farmers' incomes. Due to the early arrival of the monsoon in June 2025, rice sowing for the Kharif season has commenced rapidly.

CM Stalin noted that this year, rice cultivation has spanned 5.661 lakh hectares, a 10% increase from last year's 5.136 lakh hectares during the same period.

Stalin explained that despite favorable rain and sufficient reservoir water, fertilizer manufacturers had not adequately supplied from April 2025 to August 2025. He revealed that as per the central government's supply plan, urea, DAP, MOP, and complex fertilizers should have been distributed, yet only 57% has reached the state.

Stalin urged immediate supply of 27,823 metric tons of urea, 15,831 metric tons of DAP, 12,422 metric tons of MOP, and 98,623 metric tons of NPK complex to address this deficit.

He also requested an additional allocation of 40,000 metric tons of urea, 20,000 metric tons each of DAP and MOP, and 40,000 metric tons of NPK complex for September 2025 to cater to the demands of Kharif and the upcoming Rabi seasons.
