The interim government of Bangladesh has appointed Omar Bin Hadi, the elder brother of the late student leader Usman Bin Hadi, to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in the United Kingdom. On December 12 last year, Usman Hadi was shot, which led to his death on December 18, causing widespread violence throughout Bangladesh.

Now, Omar Bin Hadi has been appointed by Bangladesh's Mohammad Yunus government to this significant position in the high commission. As per the official notification, Omar Bin Hadi is contracted for three years as Second Secretary at the Assistant High Commission located in Birmingham. The notification of this appointment was signed on January 15, 2026.

The order from the Ministry of Public Administration specifies that Omar Bin Hadi's appointment is contractual, effective for three years from the date of assuming duty. Although his appointment is formally under the Bangladesh High Commission in Washington D.C., his posting will be in the United Kingdom.

Omar Bin Hadi emerged as a prominent face in protests following the assassination of his brother, Usman Bin Hadi, who was shot in Dhaka during an election rally. Critically injured, Usman was flown to Singapore for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Now, the interim government has assigned Omar Bin Hadi an official role in the UK Bangladesh High Commission, sparking discussions in political and social circles across the country.
