Chirag Paswan, the head of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, has criticized the opposition for their stance on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. He pointed out the irony that the opposition parties previously demanded this process, and now that the Election Commission has initiated action, they are opposing it. Paswan referred to this as the opposition's 'double standard.'
Speaking to media at the Parliament House complex, Paswan said, 'When there's a problem, they complain, and even when a solution is presented, they raise questions. This is beyond understanding.' He also reminded that after the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the opposition raised concerns about discrepancies in the voter list.
What did Chirag Paswan say?
He stated that now, as the Election Commission is conducting a special review to rectify Bihar's voter list, the opposition objects to this as well. Paswan clarified that this process has been conducted four times before, and with the advent of digital technology, it has gained more transparency and convenience. He emphasized, 'No genuine voter will be left out, but infiltrators will not be granted illegal rights.'
What did Sanjay Kumar Jha say?
Meanwhile, JDU MP and acting president Sanjay Kumar Jha also criticized the opposition, stating that they fear losing, which is why they are making such excuses.
Jha remarked, 'If a person is deceased, can they vote? If someone's name appears twice, will they vote twice? This campaign is necessary and welcome.' He cited Election Commission data indicating that 98% of voters have already submitted their documents, assuring that no genuine voter will be removed from the list. After 22 years, the SIR process in Bihar aims to remove fake, duplicate, or illegal voters and include eligible citizens.
