The Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, has offered his views on AI, suggesting how it could be effectively utilized within the Indian judiciary. There has been widespread debate over the past two years in every sector about whether AI will prove beneficial or detrimental. Now, Chief Justice Chandrachud has shared his perspective.

During the India-Singapore Judicial Conference, Chief Justice Chandrachud commented on the use of technology and referred to AI as imperative. He highlighted AI's growing presence in judicial processes as a game-changer, suggesting that it is time to embrace this evolution. However, he noted that we must ensure technology's benefits are fully harnessed.

Chief Justice Chandrachud emphasized the importance of preventing AI's misuse and ensuring it doesn't exacerbate the divide between the rich and poor.

He acknowledged that many supreme courts have already introduced AI for services like live transcription. This service is available in 18 local languages, including Hindi, and facilitates public access to legal information.

He pointed out several areas where AI can be particularly useful, such as document review, case management, and scheduling. AI could simplify administrative processes and reduce paperwork, not just cutting costs but also assisting people in receiving justice more promptly.
