At the UP-Bihar border in Ballia, a case of police officers extorting money from trucks arriving from Bihar has come to light, causing removals from Constable to SP. CM Yogi swiftly acted, removing the ASP and SP, and suspending many including the CO and several constables.
The Math of a Million Dollar Black Money Operation
After a raid, the full extent of this extortion scheme, which will astound you, was revealed. Every night, around 1,000 trucks passed through this border, with each driver being illegally charged 500 Rupees to cross. This equated to a daily black income of 5 lakh Rupees. Calculated monthly, the involved police officers were raking in 1.5 crore Rupees.
This extortion scandal was exposed when ADG and DIG conducted a joint raid at the Bharouli check post following continuous complaints. They caught two police officers red-handed while extorting money from trucks, along with 16 brokers involved in the racket.

DIG Vaibhav Krishna's Raid Reveals Scandal
DIG (Azamgarh Range) Vaibhav Krishna reported that ADG Zone Banaras and he conducted a raid in plain clothes near Bharouli Tiraha at the Bihar-UP border. Trucks passing through the check post were being extorted by police officers. These officers charged 500 Rupees per vehicle and around 1,000 trucks crossed nightly.

Immediate Action by Yogi Government
Consequent to the exposure, the state government suspended the entire Korantadih check post. The accused officers were extorting money from those involved in liquor, animal, and red sand smuggling at the UP-Bihar border. In swift response, CM Yogi removed the Ballia SP and ASP. IPS Vikrant Veer has now been appointed as the new police captain.

Meanwhile, a vigilance investigation has been ordered into the property holdings of the accused CO, SHO, and others involved. Constable Hardayal Singh's arrest during the raid revealed the entire racket.
In this illegal extortion case, cases have been registered against the Narhi SHO and Korantadih check post in-charge. Seven police officers have been accused in total. The investigation has been handed over to the Azamgarh ASP. After initial findings, Narhi SHO Pannelal and Korantadih check post in-charge Rajesh Prabhakar have been suspended.

10 Constables Suspended
Head Constable Chanderjit Yadav, Aurangzeb Khan, Constables Parvind Yadav, Satish Gupta, Pankaj Yadav, Gyanchand, Dharmveer Patel, Narhi Night Officer Sub Inspector Mangala Prasad, Head Constable Vishnu Yadav, Constables Haridayal Singh, Deepak Mishra, Balram Singh, Udayveer, Prashant Singh, Driver Omprakash among 10 constables have been suspended. Their residences have also been sealed.
