An attempt was made to hold a police team hostage in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. An officer drew his pistol to protect himself and his colleagues. The police had arrived following complaints of harassment. As of now, five suspects are in custody, and the incident has become a hot topic in the area.
It all unfolded on a Wednesday night when a UP-112 team dispatched to Basupur (Koiriupur) village under Sarpathan Police Station was held hostage by villagers. Faced with allegations of being intoxicated, the officers were first abused and then attacked. In the heat of the moment, they alerted the station, and reinforcements arrived just in time to ensure their safety.

Reports suggest that some women from the village went into the fields for defecation and were subjected to lewd remarks by some intoxicated individuals. The women protested but were ignored, prompting them to inform the men back in the village. When the men arrived, a drunkard was caught. Meanwhile, it was reported via line 112 that Chandrakumar from Ambedkarnagar was held in Basupur (Koiriupur) village.
Soon after, the police intervention team reached the village and urged the villagers to release Chandrakumar. This plea incited further outrage. The police, accused of mistreating the villagers, faced fierce backlash. The agitated villagers attacked, using their numbers as leverage.

In the chaos, an officer brandished his government-issued pistol to ward off the crowd. During the commotion, one officer managed to alert the station. As news reached them, backup quickly arrived. They managed to rescue the officers and Chandrakumar, taking them back to the station safely.
Upon reaching the station, the officers detailed the incident to their superiors. It was reported that the officers were obstructed while performing their duties, and a case was filed. Consequently, Neeraj Kumar, Jiyalal, Alok Kumar, Devendra, and Kareena were arrested for attacking the team.
Updating on the incident, CO Shahganj Ajit Singh Chauhan stated that Chandrakumar was held in Koiriupur village under Sarpathan jurisdiction. The information was relayed to PRV 2327. Upon arrival, the UP-112 team was surrounded by villagers who abused the officers, thereby hampering the official duties. Legal action is being pursued against the five arrested individuals.
