Police are investigating this incident, considering the possibility of financial troubles. Puneet got married in 2016 and had been going through a divorce. His family alleges that Puneet was distressed due to his wife. According to them, his last conversation was with her on the phone, allegedly concerning business matters.
According to family members, Puneet married Manika Pahwa, who also lived in Model Town, in 2016. Initially, everything seemed fine, but disagreements began to arise between the couple. Puneet lived separately from his parents for two years with his wife. However, as their relationship soured, Puneet returned to his parental home while Manika moved in with her parents. Both had filed for divorce. Puneet's family claims that Manika and her family harassed him to the point of suicide.

Puneet was running a bakery in Model Town. On December 31st, he returned home around 3 AM and went to bed. His mother grew concerned when he did not open his room door by noon, and when calls to his mobile went unanswered, she contacted her husband. By approximately 3:30 PM, the family broke open the door to discover Puneet had hanged himself. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his passing.
