The attire of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky became a talking point during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. Clad in black pants, boots, and a black sweatshirt, Zelensky appeared less formal compared to Trump, who wore a suit and tie.
As the Oval Office discussion between Trump and Zelensky unfolded, a member of the press inquired why the visiting leader chose not to wear a suit for the 'highest level' of office.
'Perhaps Something Better...'
When journalist Brian Glenn posed the question, Vice President JD Vance chuckled as Zelensky was asked, "Why don't you wear a suit? Do you own one?"
President Zelensky replied humorously, "Once the war ends, I’ll wear a suit. Perhaps something like yours, maybe even better."
It wasn't the first time Zelensky’s attire was a topic during his U.S. visit. As he stepped out of his convoy at the West Wing, President Trump humorously remarked on Zelensky's outfit.
Trump teased, "You all have dressed well today."

Trump Accuses Zelensky
Minutes after the reporter's question, tensions flared between Zelensky and Trump during a White House meeting about the war with Russia. Trump accused Zelensky of disrespectful behavior, while the Ukrainian leader reminded him of Russia's broken promises under President Vladimir Putin. The heated exchange concluded with Zelensky being asked to leave the White House.
Zelensky is identified by his casual fashion, frequently appearing in olive green crewneck sweaters with cargo pants and combat boots, signaling that Ukraine remains engaged in conflict.
In December 2024, Zelensky sported a similar outfit for the Notre Dame Cathedral reopening in Paris and during his meeting with Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.
