More than 24 hours have passed since an avalanche struck Chamoli in Uttarakhand. Despite the challenging conditions, 8 workers remain trapped. Rescue operations have successfully saved 47 individuals. Initially, 57 people were working on the Border Roads Organisation Project, two of whom were on leave. Those present were caught in the avalanche. With 47 individuals rescued, focus remains on reaching the remaining 7.
Rescue teams from the Army, ITBP, BRO, SDRF, and NDRF are working tirelessly. Weather poses an ongoing challenge, yet the Army's Mi-17 helicopter is on standby. Once weather conditions permit, the rescue operation will accelerate. Meanwhile, CM Dhami has reached ground zero in Chamoli to oversee operations.
Relentless Rescue Efforts Continue for Trapped Workers
Uttarakhand's Disaster Management Secretary, Vinod Kumar Suman, updated on the ongoing rescue efforts. Of the 55 BRO workers trapped by the avalanche in higher villages of Chamoli, 47 have been rescued. Among them, 14 were saved on Saturday morning, leaving 8 still stuck. The avalanche occurred around 6:30 AM on Friday.
3 Critically Injured Workers Admitted to Army Hospital
Chief Minister Dhami has announced that the relief and rescue efforts have successfully brought out another 14 workers from near Maanda. Those retrieved are receiving top-notch medical care. Three critically injured workers have been transported to the Army Hospital in Joshimath for treatment.
Overall, 47 workers have been successfully rescued, with fervent efforts underway to secure the remaining trapped workers as soon as possible.

According to the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, the trapped workers hail from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir, among other states.

Debris Blocks Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway
Near Karnaprayag, debris from the mountains has blocked the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway. A video has surfaced showing large stones on the road. Efforts to clear the stones are underway.
