On Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh took a jibe at opposition leaders in the state assembly, calling them 'two specimens.' He remarked, "There are two specimens in the country: one in Delhi and another in Lucknow. Whenever an issue arises, they immediately leave the country." He also mentioned that Akhilesh Yadav might travel to England again.
What Did the CM Say?
During the assembly discussion, CM Yogi drew a comparison between leaders in Delhi and UP, stating there are 'specimens' in the country, one of whom is seated here. In a jibe at the leader of the opposition, he hinted that the local 'babu' might soon head off to England. According to the CM, whenever a serious national issue is discussed, some people tend to flee overseas. Following his sharp critique, the SP staged a walkout from the assembly.
Akhilesh Yadav's Counterattack
Responding on X (formerly Twitter), Akhilesh Yadav remarked that Yogi's quip wasn't just an attack on opponents but a sign of internal discord within the BJP. He labeled it as 'self-admission,' emphasizing that public office bearers should maintain decorum. He advised BJP leaders commenting on internal Delhi-Lucknow disputes to exercise caution.
Political Debate over Codeine Syrup Scam
The controversy erupted amidst allegations concerning a codeine-based cough syrup racket. Akhilesh Yadav had earlier claimed the racket began in the Prime Minister’s constituency. In response, the BJP quickly hit back.
Yogi Adityanath’s Response
Yogi likened the opposition's uproar to 'a speck in a thief's beard,' meaning there might be guilty parties within the opposition. He indicated that leaders or individuals connected to the Samajwadi Party could be implicated in the investigation. Yogi asserted that the entire matter will proceed under the NDPS Act as per High Court orders.
The Chief Minister declared that the government has taken stringent measures against cross-border syrup smuggling. No deaths have occurred from counterfeit syrup in UP. So far, 79 cases have been registered, 225 individuals identified, and 78 arrests made. Raids have been conducted on 134 companies.
Yogi Adityanath affirmed that no one involved in this matter will be spared. He cautioned of potential bulldozer action in the future, stating that no complaints should be registered then.
