Yamuna Swells in Agra, Water Engulfs Taj Mahal's Rear Park, Alert Issued

The Yamuna River in Agra has climbed above the danger mark, prompting an alert by the authorities. The water has reached a level of 496.1 feet, exceeding the warning line by 1.1 feet. Consequently, the park behind the Taj Mahal is flooded, and the steps of the ghats are underwater. The administration has urged residents living near the Yamuna's banks to relocate to safety and is diligently monitoring the situation.

The rising waters of the Yamuna River in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, have once again triggered alarm, surpassing the danger warning mark by 1.1 feet and peaking at 496.1 feet. The park shadowing the Taj Mahal is inundated, and the ghats' steps have been submerged. Authorities have issued an alert to those residing along the Yamuna's edge.

Submerged Steps at Ghats

As the water level continues to rise, the steps and lower cremation grounds at Kailash Ghat, Poie Ghat, Balkeshwar Ghat, Kacheri Ghat, Shamshan Ghat, and Dussehra Ghat are underwater. The municipal corporation has stationed personnel around all ghats to maintain continuous surveillance.

Impact of Rain and Released Barrage Water

Delhi's Okhla Barrage has discharged 55,000 cusecs, and Mathura's Gokul Barrage released 97,000 cusecs. Previously on Saturday, 90,000 cusecs flowed from Gokul Barrage. Persistent rain in the hills and the released barrage water have spiked the river's level.

Flood Hazard Areas

In tehsil Sadar, villages such as Tanora, Nurpur, Kailash, Swami Bagh, Nagla Budhi, Amar Vihar Dayalbagh, Moti Mahal, Katra Wazir Khan, Rambagh Basti, Apsara Talkies, Yamuna Kinara Road, and several villages in Fatehpur tehsil are expected to be impacted.

District officer Arvind Mallappa Bangari indicated that water has been released from Hathinikund, raising the alert level. The entire district administration is already prepared for such events. Currently, there is no cause for panic, and citizens are requested to avoid entering the river.
