The Women's Cricket World Cup (ODI) is kicking off from September 30 and will continue until November 2. The Australian team has claimed victory seven times, making them the team with the most wins. In contrast, India has only made it to the finals twice, in 2013 and 2017, across 12 seasons from 1973 to 2022, yet they have never seized the trophy. This presents an incredible opportunity for the Indian team this time around.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed that there is hope for the Indian Women's Cricket Team to end their long wait by winning the World Cup this time. This exciting 50-over tournament is set to begin in Guwahati on September 30.

The first match will feature India against Sri Lanka, accompanied by an opening ceremony. Both countries are co-hosting this tournament. To date, India has never clinched the title in any of the 12 Women's World Cups held.

Saikia mentioned- For the first time, the Women's World Cup will start in Guwahati. India recently exhibited an impressive performance in England, instilling confidence that the team will play remarkably well this time. Though India hasn't won any ICC Women's Trophy yet, this is a magnificent opportunity.

Additionally, he highlighted that India played a tough series against Australia recently, narrowly losing 2-1. The opening ceremony will be 40 minutes long, featuring a tribute to Assam's iconic singer Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away in an accident in Singapore on Friday. Garg was a revered artist from Assam.

Saikia noted- The Assam Cricket Association and BCCI will jointly honor Zubeen. This tribute from the cricket world will be the highest accolade for him. Furthermore, during the mid-innings break of the opening match, Shreya Ghoshal will also perform.
