Prithvi Shaw vs Musheer Khan Fight Reason:
On October 7, Tuesday, Prithvi Shaw found himself entangled in a heated dispute with Musheer Khan, a player from his former team Mumbai, during a practice match in Pune. The match marked the beginning of the Ranji season 2025-26, and it was here that Shaw was seen charging towards Khan with a bat. This season, Prithvi Shaw is representing Maharashtra in domestic cricket.
After being dismissed for 181 runs, Shaw was seen angrily advancing towards Musheer Khan, who had gotten him caught at fine leg. The dispute between Prithvi Shaw and Musheer Khan now has an apparent cause as reported by Cricbuzz.
According to reports, on the first day (October 7), Shaw grew increasingly frustrated with the constant sledging from Khan and attempted to raise his bat and grab Khan's collar. This incident occurred on the first day of the three-day practice match between Mumbai and Maharashtra at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Opening the inning, Shaw delivered a spectacular 181-run inning off 220 balls, peppered with 21 boundaries and 3 sixes, partnering with Arshin Kulkarni for a massive 305-run stand. Kulkarni also shone brightly, scoring 186 runs off 140 balls with 33 fours and 4 sixes. Maharashtra opted to bat first.
According to both teams' sources, the altercation occurred right after Shaw's dismissal, when Maharashtra's score stood at 430/3. Shaw was caught by Irfan Umair at fine leg boundary off Musheer Khan's bowling in the 74th over.
Afterwards, Musheer’s parting comment of 'Thank you' as Shaw left the field escalated the situation, further provoking Shaw’s anger. Recorded video footage shows an on-field umpire attempting to calm Shaw and leading him away from Mumbai players.
Shaw made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2016-17 season and his Test debut in the 2018-19 season at the tender age of 18. He has since moved from his domestic team Mumbai to align with Maharashtra post the last season. Joining him is former Madhya Pradesh and Kerala spin all-rounder Jalaj Saxena.
Though he has been out of the race for the national team for quite some time now, his off-field disciplinary issues have attracted more attention than his on-field performances in recent days.
Maharashtra Captain Defends Prithvi Shaw
Maharashtra captain Ankit Bawane commented on the incident, remarking, 'This is just a practice match. All players are familiar with each other. These things can happen. Everything is fine now, with no further issues to address.' As of writing this article, neither the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) nor the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) has decided to pursue the matter further.
