The death of Akshay Shinde, accused of raping minor girls in Badlapur, Maharashtra, in a police encounter has created a sensation among the public. He was being transported from Taloja jail to Badlapur when the police team claims he snatched a gun and started firing. In the crossfire, Inspector Sanjay Shinde and Assistant Inspector Nilesh More were injured.

Well-known encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma joined the police force in 1983 and has conducted more than 100 encounters during his career. Sanjay Shinde was among the officers who arrested Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar. He has been included in the special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the Maharashtra government to investigate the Badlapur rape case.
Controversies Surrounding Sanjay Shinde
There have been controversies associated with Sanjay Shinde as well. Allegations were made against him that he assisted Vijay Palande, an accused in a murder case, in escaping police custody during interrogation. His uniform was also found in Palande’s car. Sanjay Shinde was reinstated by Mumbai police in 2014.

The opposition has accused the ruling Maha Aghadi government of killing the accused before he could be presented in court, thus denying justice to the victim’s families. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her protest, stating that this showcases the government's incompetence and is merely a story written and executed by them.
