The second and final match of the Test series between India and West Indies began on October 10th (Friday) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat first, sending the West Indies into field. Notably, this marked Shubman Gill's first successful toss win in Test cricket, having lost the toss in his previous six Test matches.
On the first day of this match, players of the West Indies team, led by Roston Chase, took to the field wearing black armbands. This was a tribute to Bernard Julien, who passed away on October 4 in Valsayn, Trinidad and Tobago, at the age of 75.
Bernard Julien represented the West Indies from 1973 to 1977, appearing in 24 Tests and 12 One Day International (ODI) matches. In Test cricket, Julien scored 866 runs at an average of 30.92, including two centuries and three half-centuries. He also claimed 50 wickets with an average of 37.36 in Test matches.
The West Indies made two changes to their lineup for the Delhi Test. Brandon King and Johan Lane were replaced by wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach and fast bowler Anderson Phillip in the playing XI, respectively. Meanwhile, the Indian team retained their previous playing XI.
