Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has taken aim at senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. While advocating for Trinamool Congress candidate Yusuf Pathan at a public meeting, she heralded the dawn of a new era stating, 'A fresh morning is upon us, and a new age is about to begin.'

Banerjee expressed high hopes in nominating Yusuf Pathan to contest from this region. She plea to her audience, 'I urge you to ensure his victory. Do you wish to empower BJP's confederates once again? Now is the time for change.'

Accusing Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of being a BJP stooge, Mamata declares him a traitor to the India block. 'TMC has yet to seize victory in Behrampur. Congress prevails by spouting lies with aid from BJP and CPM. JP Nadda's recent Behrampur visit excluded even a mention of Adhir, confirming his staunch BJP support. I'll refrain from uttering his name, just as I avoid acknowledging traitors. Give your valuable vote to Trinamool Congress, ensuring our candidate Yusuf Pathan's win.'

The existing MP of Bengal's Behrampur from Congress, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is in the electoral fray. Having been elected since 1999, Chowdhury has consecutively secured five terms as MP. Until now, TMC has never claimed victory in Behrampur.

Why Mamata's Defeat of Adhir is Crucial

The TMC has had its sights on the Behrampur seat since before the 2019 elections. But changed circumstances have made Chowdhury's defeat a top priority for Mamata. Known as the most vocal adversary of Bengal's CM, Chowdhury continued his onslaught against Mamata even as TMC leaders attended India block meetings with top Congress figures. TMC's distancing from Congress has also been blamed on Adhir's rhetoric.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's Response?

In a recent press conference in Murshidabad, Adhir acknowledged his description of the BJP and TMC agreement as an 'illicit relationship,' equating voting for either as the same – two sides of the same coin.
