The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for six districts of Uttarakhand. Schools in Dehradun will remain closed. On Monday, an 'Orange' alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall was declared for six Uttarakhand districts.
According to the agency, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) center based in Dehradun, issued an orange alert on Sunday for heavy rainfall on July 20 and 21 in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. An orange alert is also issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 22 in Dehradun and Uttarkashi.
Consequently, Dehradun's District Magistrate, Savin Bansal, instructed all schools and Anganwadi centers from classes 1 to 12 to remain closed on Monday due to the 'Orange' alert.

Similarly, incessant monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh have disrupted daily life. According to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) report from the evening of July 20, 142 roads are blocked, 40 water supply schemes are disrupted, and 26 electricity distribution transformers (DTRs) are not functioning.
The situation remains grave in Mandi (91 roads) and Kullu (33 roads) districts, where landslides and sudden floods have blocked most roads. Electricity supply in areas like Gohar and Bhavnagar has also been severely impacted, with 26 DTRs disrupted due to heavy rains.
Moreover, 40 water supply schemes in regions like Mandi, Kullu, and Sirmaur have been affected by floods and sediment deposits. According to statistics so far, a total of 166 deaths have been reported due to accidents in the state, including 132 from rain-related incidents and 34 from road accidents.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) monitors the situation round-the-clock and coordinates with district administrations for relief and rehabilitation efforts. The most nuisance has been reported in all areas of the Kullu and Mandi districts. In Una, the Barsala Bridge has been closed since July 3 due to damage, impacting vehicle movement and necessitating traffic diversions.
