The accusations of sending water from Firozpur to Pakistan have been refuted. On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann clearly stated that no water from Firozpur was sent to Pakistan. Instead, we directed our feeders to supply water to Rajasthan, not Pakistan.
Punjab's CM emphasized, 'Not a drop of water from Firozpur ever went to Pakistan. Water has reached Pakistan through other sources, but not through Firozpur. There’s limited knowledge on this subject, which is why such statements arise. No water at all was sent via the Hussainiwala route from Firozpur.'
'Water Only Supplied to Rajasthan'
The Chief Minister further elaborated, 'No water from Firozpur was given to Pakistan. We only utilized our feeder system to supply water to Rajasthan, not Pakistan. While we are not opposed to sharing water with Pakistan, it is crucial to ensure we have an adequate supply for ourselves. Rivers Indus, Chenab, and Kashmir supply water across the border, and we strive to keep everyone well-supplied and quenched.'
Recently, a controversy arose in Punjab regarding water distribution, with claims that the state government was providing water to Pakistan from Firozpur, amid a severe domestic shortage. CM Mann has now made it clear that no water was given to Pakistan, emphasizing that Rajasthan was the recipient of the water supply.
