A month after the discovery of burnt cash at the residence of former Delhi High Court judge, Justice Yashwant Varma, the issue is back in the spotlight. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident. He urged the three-judge committee appointed by the Supreme Court, which is probing corruption allegations, to expedite their efforts. Additionally, he questioned the absence of any FIR being filed in this case.

Vice President Dhankhar raised concerns about why this prolonged constitutional process is being followed against a judge when even high-ranking officials like himself are not exempt from FIRs. He emphasized that according to the law, any cognizable offense must be reported to the police, and failure to do so constitutes a crime. Despite this, no FIR has been registered, which is deeply concerning.

The Vice President also stressed that without an FIR, a legal investigation cannot take place. He questioned the responsibility and accountability of the court, highlighting that direct FIRs cannot be filed in cases involving judges, as they require approval from relevant judicial authorities.

Supreme Court Had Ordered Internal Investigation

Following the discovery of burnt cash in Justice Varma's storeroom, the Supreme Court ordered an internal probe and the formation of a three-member committee a month ago. The Vice President stated, "It is essential to activate the rule of law. Approval is not necessary, but if it's a judge's matter, a special process is needed."
