Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket. At 36, Kohli was last seen in action against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, where India faced a challenging 1-3 series loss. Although he scored a magnificent century in the opening Perth Test, subsequent matches saw him struggle.
Kohli's Test debut took place in June 2011 against the West Indies in Kingston. In that debut, he scored 4 runs in the first innings and 15 in the second. His final Test, held in Sydney against Australia in January 2025, witnessed him scoring 17 and 6 runs respectively.
Rising to legendary status, King Kohli played 123 Test matches, amassing 9230 runs with an impressive average of 46.85. His Test career includes 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
Virat announced his retirement via an Instagram post, reflecting, 'It's been 14 years since I first donned the blue jersey in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It tested me, shaped me, and imparted lessons I will cherish for life. Playing in whites is an intensely personal experience, filled with silent toil, long days, and unseen little moments that linger with you.'

Kohli further added, 'Stepping away from this format wasn't easy, but it feels right. I gave it my all and received more than I ever expected. I leave with a heart full of gratitude for the game, the players, and everyone who supported me on this journey. I will always look back at my Test career with a smile.'
Reflecting on His Captaincy Record
Kohli stands tall as India's most successful Test captain. Leading the team in 68 matches, he secured 40 victories. When he took charge, India was ranked seventh, but under his leadership and with the team's dedication, he elevated them to the coveted World Number 1 position.
