A shocking robbery incident has come to light in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, leaving everyone astounded. A sub-inspector was involved in this heist. On June 22, two workers of a major jeweller were transporting 9.3 million rupees by bus. During the night, in the Ramnagar police station area of Varanasi, some individuals stopped their bus. One of them was in uniform while the rest were in plain clothes. Allegedly, they introduced themselves as crime branch officers and took the two workers off the bus under the pretext of questioning. They then robbed them of 4.25 million rupees and returned the rest of the money.

When the workers informed the jeweller, there was an uproar. A complaint was filed at the police station, but initially, the local police did not take it seriously. However, as the situation escalated, senior officials ordered an SOG investigation. During this investigation, one of the individuals involved in the incident was caught. After questioning him, the name of Sub-Inspector Suryaprakash Pandey came up. A thorough investigation revealed that on the day of the incident, the sub-inspector was present and played a major role in the heist by posing as a crime branch officer.

How the Heist was Planned

According to sources, on June 22, a businessman from Varanasi was sending 9.3 million rupees with his employees. Two employees were carrying this amount by bus. When SHO Suryaprakash Pandey came to know about it, he planned the robbery. Suryaprakash included two other individuals in this plan. One of his men, carrying an illegal pistol, was already seated in the bus. As the bus reached the highway, SHO Suryaprakash and his accomplices stopped the bus posing as crime branch officers. They took the two workers off the bus and, claiming the money to be hawala money, kept 4.25 million rupees and returned 5 million rupees.

What the DCP Said

While revealing the details of the incident, DCP Kashi Gaurav Banswal stated that with the help of CCTV footage and CDR, the names of the accused were identified. Among them was a sub-inspector whose role was also suspicious. In the robbery case, apart from the three individuals who were caught, three more accused are absconding. The authorities have recovered approximately 800,000 rupees out of the looted 4.2 million rupees. Additionally, two firearms and live cartridges were seized.
