Chandrashekhar Azad, who is the President of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) and a Member of Parliament from Nadigam, was traveling by the Vande Bharat train when it was pelted with stones. Azad himself tweeted that he was on his way from Delhi to Kanpur. Around 7:15 AM, as the train passed through Kamalpur station in Bulandshahr district, an anti-social element hurled a stone, shattering the window near the seat ahead of his.
Azad reported that the stone hit the window near a passenger sitting two seats ahead of him, shattering the glass. He was utterly taken aback by the event. This incident not only caused damage to public property but also raised questions about the safety of passengers. The MP from Nadigam stated that such incidents are condemnable and cannot be tolerated at any cost.
1503 Stone Pelting Incidents on Trains in 2022
According to a report cited by the chief of the Azad Samaj Party, there were 1503 stone-throwing incidents on trains in 2022, resulting in millions of rupees in losses to the Railways. This statistic compels a reflection on why such occurrences happen repeatedly. Stone pelting on trains not only damages property but can also prove fatal for passengers.
Railways: India’s Priceless Asset, Says Chandrashekhar
He said it is crucial to understand that the Railways are a priceless asset of the country, and protecting it is a responsibility of all citizens. Such actions in society not only foster a sense of insecurity but also tarnish the image of our nation.
Our Ethical Responsibility, Not Just the Government’s: Azad
Chandrashekhar emphasized that stringent measures should be taken by the central railway minister, rail police, and administration to prevent such mishaps, along with spreading awareness in society. He appealed to parents and teachers to raise awareness among children about this issue in families and schools. This will not only reduce such incidents but also ensure the safety of railway passengers. We must all become conscious citizens. This is our country, and safeguarding its assets is not only the government's responsibility but our moral obligation and a fundamental duty of the constitution.
