In Uttar Pradesh, the process of the Special Intensive Revision
(SIR)
has concluded, and the draft voter list has been released. Previously, Uttar Pradesh had a total of 154.4 million registered voters. However, the SIR revised draft voter list now includes over 125.5 million voters, indicating that approximately 28.9 million names have been removed from the voter registry.
This raises the question of whether those whose names are missing from the draft list will be ineligible to vote, or if there might be another opportunity to have their names added? Let’s find out what steps those removed from the draft list need to take.
Are You Unable to Vote?
For those whose names have been removed from the draft list, it does not mean they will be unable to vote. There is an opportunity to have your name included again before the final list is published. The Election Commission will release a final list on March 6, 2026. If your name appears in this list, your voting rights continue unless other changes occur. However, even if your name isn't in the final list, you can add it through the initial process. Therefore, if your name appears in the draft list, you have the chance to rectify it and ensure you are listed.
How to Verify Your Name?
After the release of the draft list, voters should visit the official website to check their name by filling in required details such as legislative assembly, polling station, and voter information. Once the list is available, it can be seen and downloaded from the Election Commission's website. If your name is missing, you must follow additional procedures to correct this.
What to Do If Your Name Isn’t Listed?
If you find discrepancies in your name or if it’s missing, you can file a complaint through both online and offline channels. Complaints must be filed within a month, with the deadline on February 6. You'll need to contact your BLO (Booth Level Officer) and provide certain documents, such as an Aadhaar card, mark sheet, old voter list family names, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, bills, passport, etc., to get your name added. This includes your Aadhaar or familial documents.
You can also add your name online by filling out Form-6. This can be done through the NVSP portal, after which your name will appear on the final list.
