What is Nazul Property?
Nazul land refers to those lands which have not had any heirs for many years. Thus, the state government gains authority over these lands. During British rule, lands belonging to states and individuals who rebelled against the British were confiscated. After independence, lands with legitimate claims were returned to their owners by the government. The lands without claims became Nazul lands, which the state governments held authority over. The UP government argues that they plan to utilize Nazul lands for developmental works.
