By-elections for the assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh are due soon. Political parties have tightened their belts in preparation. In this context, the head of the Azad Samaj Party and Nagina MP, Chandrasekhar Azad, made a major announcement in a press conference held in Lucknow. Answering a question posed by 'Aaj Tak', Chandrasekhar stated that his party will contest all the seats in the upcoming by-elections.
Chandrasekhar clearly mentioned that his party will contest all the 10 seats. He has already discussed this plan with his party officials. The decision is final and they will contest firmly on all 10 seats in the upcoming by-elections.
According to experts, the entry of the Azad Samaj Party in the by-elections could disrupt the Dalit vote bank of the Samajwadi Party and BSP, potentially spoiling their game.
In previous elections, when the Lok Sabha elections were held, the Azad Samaj Party contested from the Nagina and Dumariaganj seats. Chandrasekhar won the Nagina seat, whereas in Dumariaganj, the party disturbed the 'India Alliance', leading to a BJP victory. Therefore, there is speculation that Chandrasekhar could harm SP-BSP in the by-elections as well.
Congress to Contest By-elections in Alliance with SP
Notably, the Congress party is also gearing up for the upcoming assembly by-elections in Uttar Pradesh. According to sources, the Congress will contest 10 seats in collaboration with the Samajwadi Party in the upcoming UP by-elections.
UP Congress has called a meeting of all district presidents on the 21st in Lucknow, where final decisions will be made. It is likely that SP will contest 7 seats, while Congress will be allotted 3 seats.
Seats to be Contested in By-elections
In fact, by-elections are to be held in Karhal, Milkipur, Katehri, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Meerapur, Phulpur, Manjha, and Sisamau seats. Five of these seats belong to the Samajwadi Party, one each to RLD and Nishad Party, and three to BJP. Given the Samajwadi Party's surprise performance against BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, these by-elections are considered a crucial test for Yogi Adityanath.
BJP Gears Up
Clearly, the political temperature in Uttar Pradesh has risen following the Lok Sabha election results. While meetings are ongoing in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is preparing for the 10 upcoming assembly by-elections in the state. Last Wednesday, CM Yogi called an important meeting regarding the preparations for the by-elections on the 10 seats. Feedback on the preparations was taken from the ministers in this meeting. Before this, in a meeting held on June 30, Yogi had assigned responsibilities to the ministers for the by-elections on the 10 seats.
