The Union Budget 2026-27 has witnessed a substantial growth in the allocation to reinforce the financial situation of the Delhi Police. This time, a provision of ₹12,846.15 crores has been made for the Delhi Police, which is a rise of 4.57% compared to the previous financial year 2025-26, which was ₹12,259.16 crores. This increment is tailored specifically keeping in view the policing requirements of the capital.
Being the nation's capital, Delhi faces more complex and challenging policing responsibilities compared to other states. Maintaining law and order, ensuring VIP security, overseeing international events, managing protests, and controlling daily crimes are the tasks borne by the Delhi Police. Therefore, this budget increase is considered extremely significant.
The most significant rise is observed in revenue expenditure. In 2025-26, the revenue expenditure was ₹11,315.63 crores, which has been increased to ₹11,881.55 crores in 2026-27. This spending is directed towards the daily operations of the police, such as salaries, allowances, fuel, communication systems, training, and forensic support. Over 82,000 personnel are deployed with Delhi Police, managing law and order, crime control, traffic management, and security tasks.
There has been an increase in capital expenditure too, rising from ₹943.53 crores to ₹964.60 crores. This amount is spent on modernization of police stations, vehicles, arms, monitoring systems, and IT infrastructure. This will aid Delhi Police in better handling technical and digital crimes.
The Delhi Police operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, thus its budget is considered significant at the national level. This enhanced budget will strengthen Delhi Police's operational efficiency and aid in tackling future challenges.
