A shocking revelation has surfaced in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, where conmen audaciously established a counterfeit SBI branch. They duped numerous individuals while absconding with lakhs in exchange for fraudulent appointment letters. The police have registered a case against three identified suspects, all of whom are currently at large. According to reports, extensive deception led to significant monetary losses for many in the Korba and Kawardha regions.
The scam unraveled when Manoj Agrawal, aspiring to open a kiosk branch, grew suspicious upon seeing the SBI branch in Chapora village. A thorough investigation followed, disclosing the branch's fraudulent nature. The Dabhra branch officials were promptly notified, and on detailed scrutiny, the bogus operation was confirmed.
The investigation revealed that employees of the sham bank were misled with counterfeit appointment letters and were placed under the guise of training. Upon a police raid, the alleged bank manager vanished. No legitimate banking documents were discovered during the probe. The officers have seized computer systems and hard disks as evidence.
Sakti SDOP Manish Kumar Dhruv disclosed that the fabricated branch bore falsified seals and documents supposedly from the Raipur region manager. A case has been logged against three suspects alongside others under multiple criminal sections. The detectives are actively pursuing the escapees.
Several individuals were scammed for substantial amounts through this fake bank establishment, with Sangeeta Kawar losing INR 2.5 lakh, Lakshmi Yadav INR 2 lakh, Pintu Maravi INR 5.8 lakh, and Parmeshwar Rathore INR 3 lakh. They were handed sham appointment letters under the guise of trainings.
Names like Rekha Sahu and Mandhir Das have cropped up, both of whom hail from Korba, identified by victims as recipients of duplicitous payments. The police continue their exhaustive hunt for these swindlers as investigations proceed.
Such audacious schemes remind us of the need for vigilance and robust legal measures to protect individuals from falling prey to deceitful practices.
