The SBU stated that 1,100 kilograms of TNT explosives were used in this operation.

Cherished as the Kerch Bridge, the Crimea Bridge is more than just infrastructure.

The Crimea Bridge, also known as the Kerch Bridge, serves as a critical road and rail connection between Russia and Crimea. Built after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, it is one of President Vladimir Putin's significant projects, vital in many ways to Russia. Even amid the war, it has been an essential supply route for arms and troops from Russia to Ukraine.

Twice before, Ukraine has made the bridge its target.

This attack is the latest in a series following two previous bombings. On October 8, 2022, a truck explosion caused a massive fire, and another attack in July 2023 resulted in the destruction of two bridge sections. At that time, SBU chief Vasil Malik confirmed the use of 'Sea Baby' marine drones in the operation.

Media reports indicate that the SBU announced on its Telegram channel, “The Ukrainian Security Service launched another special operation targeting the submerged regions of the Crimea Bridge for the third time.” Prior to this attack, on Sunday, the SBU conducted airstrikes on Russia’s strategic bomber fleet.

Russia remains silent on the explosion thus far.

Russia has yet to provide an official response to this claim. Immediately after the attack, the bridge operator announced halting transportation services via Telegram, discussing swift repair efforts. However, by 9 AM local time, normal transportation had resumed.

This attack escalates the ongoing tension over the Crimea Bridge amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While Russia has been quick to repair the bridge after previous attacks, the SBU's latest strike underscores Ukraine’s persistent efforts to weaken the bridge as a vital Russian link to Crimea.
