Udhampur LIVE Updates:
Voting has begun across 102 constituencies in the first phase of the general elections, including Jammu & Kashmir. Queue lines at polling stations have been visible since morning. In Udhampur, 1.6 million voters are set to determine the fate of 12 candidates. The main contest here is between the BJP's Dr. Jitendra Singh and the Congress veteran Choudhary Lal Singh.
In 2014 and 2019, the BJP candidate Jitendra Singh registered impressive wins from the Udhampur constituency. On the other hand, the Congress leader had garnered wins here in 2004 and 2009. These elections hold special significance for Jammu & Kashmir, as it's their first electoral test since the revocation of Article 370.
Out of these 102 seats, the BJP had secured victory in 40 during the 2019 general elections. DMK came in next with 24, while Congress had to settle for 15. The allocation of these seats in the current election will be fascinating to witness, followed by six more phases of voting to come.

With the polling beginning at 7am for the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, 12 candidates are contesting, but the primary fight is between BJP and Congress. BJP has fielded the incumbent MP Jitendra Singh while Congress is banking on Choudhary Lal Singh, who registered wins in 2004 and 2009.
