Not Bumrah or Arshdeep... This 'Unknown' Bowler Shines in T20I Death Overs, Bangladeshi Ace in Top-5

In Team India's opening game at Asia Cup 2025, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh sat on the bench, while Jasprit Bumrah got the nod. Bumrah and Arshdeep are known as death-over specialists.

In T20 cricket, death overs, the last four overs of the innings, have always posed a challenge for bowlers. Often, these overs can turn the match around. Batsmen aim for boundaries with full force during these overs, making many bowlers seem pricey. Only a few bowlers master the art of controlling the death overs skillfully.

India's star pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, are considered T20 death overs magicians. However, statistics from 2024 tell a different story. From 2024 onwards, neither Bumrah nor left-arm bowler Arshdeep feature in the top 5 list of bowlers taking the most wickets in T20 Internationals during death overs.

Since 2024, Hong Kong's fast bowler Ehsan Khan has claimed the most wickets during death overs in T20 Internationals. In 24 innings during this period, Ehsan Khan bagged 23 wickets at an economy rate of 6.06. He continues to shine as part of Hong Kong's squad at Asia Cup 2025.

Stellar Performance by Bahrain's Bowler

During this period, Bahrain's fast bowler Ali Dawood claimed 22 wickets in 23 innings, maintaining a strike rate of 12.68 and an economy rate of 7.03. Dawood secures the second position. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's talented pacer Taskin Ahmed, with his sharp bowling, seized 21 wickets at an economy rate of 7.10 in 21 innings. His performance could prove pivotal for Bangladesh in upcoming Asia Cup matches.

Canadian fast bowler Kaleem Sana has bowled in death overs during 17 innings of T20 Internationals since 2024, taking 21 wickets at an average of 7.42 and an economy rate of 6.07. Despite representing Canada, his performance rivals major players. Uganda's fast bowler Cosmas Kyewuta is also among the top-5, with 21 wickets in 14 innings, averaging 8.04 and striking at an impressive rate.

Jasprit Bumrah's absence from this list might be due to his limited participation in T20 Internationals following the 2024 World Cup. He made a return through the Asia Cup after a year's break from T20 setups. As for Arshdeep Singh, he has taken 18 wickets in T20 Internationals' death overs since 2024.

Interestingly, Arshdeep Singh trails even UAE's fast bowler Junaid Siddiqui, who has grabbed 19 wickets during this period. Notably, the top-5 bowlers don't include stars from India, Pakistan, England, or Australia. These stats highlight how players from smaller cricketing nations are making an impact at the international level.

Fans Eager for India-Pakistan Clash

India's first Asia Cup match saw them demolish UAE by 9 wickets. The UAE team folded for just 57 runs, and India chased the target in just 4.3 overs. Now, Team India is set to face Pakistan in their second Group A match on September 14 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
