President Donald Trump once again spoke about the decision to halt American funding aimed at increasing voter turnout in India, questioning the need to spend $20 million.

Speaking at the FII Priority Summit in Miami, Florida, Trump asked, “Why should we spend so much on India to boost voter turnout? I think the Biden administration wanted to see someone else win in India. We need to have a conversation with India's government about this.”

Previously, Trump defended the DOGE’s decision to cut the $20 million funding, questioning why wealthy nations like India, who already collect high taxes and impose stringent tariffs, need such financial aid. He expressed respect for India and its Prime Minister but doubted the necessity of sponsoring voter turnout with such a substantial amount.

On February 16, under Elon Musk's leadership, DOGE announced a halt to funding various countries, including the $20 million allocated to boost voting participation in India. DOGE stated America's decision to reduce the significant financial support for enhancing India's voter engagement programs.

Earlier, the U.S. provided $20 million to increase voter participation during elections in India. However, this fund will no longer be available to India.

Trump has often commented on India's high tariffs, noting it is one of the countries with the highest tariffs in the world.
