Three months into the new government, many recently elected legislators in Maharashtra are still struggling to find accommodation in Mumbai's legislative housing. The reason? A number of former legislators and current ministers have refused to vacate their quarters, despite being officially notified by the assembly secretariat.

Among those holding onto their quarters are influential figures such as Girish Mahajan (Water Resources Minister), Sanjay Savkare (Textile Minister), Makarand Patil (Relief and Rehabilitation Minister), Babasaheb Patil (Cooperation Minister), Pankaj Bhoyar (Minister of State - Rural), and Yogesh Kadam (Minister of State - Urban).

Ministers Cite Challenges

While new legislators are anxiously awaiting their rooms, ministers report that their given accommodations are in serious disrepair, with ongoing renovations making it impossible for them to vacate the premises.

Queues and Quarrels Over Quarters

With housing delays sparking frustration, many legislators are persistently visiting offices of concerned authorities, and in some instances, disputes have erupted among legislators over a single room.

Resolution Needed Before Budget Session

The sluggish transition within Maharashtra's new government is generating significant challenges. With the budget session set to commence in the first week of March and extending for two weeks, it remains crucial for the government to address this urgent issue to ensure seamless legislative operations.
