U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their first meeting in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. The world was closely watching this high-profile summit. Despite the gathering, no agreement was reached to cease the war in Ukraine. During the talks, Putin stated that if Trump had been in the White House in 2022, the Ukraine war would have never started.

When questioned if only Trump's presence in the White House could have prevented the war, Putin responded, "I can confirm that," emphasizing that Ukraine would not have been attacked.

Putin commented on Alaska being the ideal location for the meeting, stating, "It's a logical venue given our shared history." He noted that now there are "excellent direct contacts" between Moscow and Washington, a significant improvement from the past difficulties.

Russia Desires Honest End to Conflict - Putin

President Putin expressed, "Improving the situation was necessary. We will always remember that our countries fought together against common enemies. This heritage will aid us in the future." The meeting focused on ending the conflict in Ukraine, and Putin commended Trump's "desire to understand the essence of the conflict." He affirmed Russia's genuine wish to end the war, stressing the importance of addressing the root causes and considering Russia's concerns.

Putin further stated, "I agree with Trump that Ukraine's security must be ensured. I hope mutual understanding will lead to peace in Ukraine." Both leaders issued brief statements to the media after nearly three hours of high-level talks, choosing not to take questions or delve into details.

Agreement on Many Issues, No Deal Without Complete Consensus - Trump

Standing before a banner that read "Pursuing Peace," Trump said, "We have agreed on many issues. On some significant issues, complete consensus hasn't been reached yet, but progress has been made. No deal will be completed until full consensus is achieved." At the summit's conclusion, Putin jokingly invited Trump, saying, "Next time in Moscow." To which Trump replied, "Oh, that's an interesting one. I might face some opposition, but it's possible."

In simple terms, the Alaska summit clarified that efforts are being made to improve relations between the two nations, but a solution to the Ukraine conflict requires a long journey ahead.
