On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a U.S.-brokered plan to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He stated that he is very close to finalizing an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

During his initial remarks at the White House, Trump thanked Netanyahu for agreeing to the plan, describing it as a golden opportunity for ushering in 'eternal peace' in the Middle East.

'Peace to Dawn in the Middle East'

The President expressed full confidence that this agreement would be acceptable to Hamas and other parties, and if accepted, the fighting would cease immediately. This negotiation is merely a part of the grander vision for peace in the Middle East.

In fact, the White House has released a 20-point plan detailing a provisional governing board. This board will be chaired by Trump and will include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The proposal does not require Palestinians to leave Gaza and calls for an immediate ceasefire upon agreement by both parties.

Instant End to Hostilities

Highlighting key aspects of the plan, Trump remarked, 'If Hamas agrees, all hostages will be released according to the proposal, leading to a conclusion of the conflict. The plan includes efforts by Arab and Muslim nations to demilitarize Gaza and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces.'

Trump noted, 'We are hearing that Hamas is also willing. I believe we will receive a positive response from Hamas. The result will mean the elimination of threats in the region.'

'Peace Board to Be Established'

According to Trump, an international body named the Peace Board will be established to monitor these changes as part of the plan. A new governing authority for Gaza will be formed, incorporating Palestinians and experts from around the world.

'What If Hamas Rejects the Agreement?'

Trump further clarified that while the U.S. is striving for peace, should Hamas reject this agreement, Israel will have his full support to dismantle Hamas.

Trump declared that many Palestinians desire a peaceful existence. He challenged the Palestinians to take responsibility for their future, as the U.S. pledges support and entrusts their destiny to them.

Israeli PM's Affirmation

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed agreement with the plan, reaffirming commitment to a long-term solution while emphasizing regional security concerns. Netanyahu's stance highlights Israel's policy of prioritizing security as a central facet of any peace agreement.

The Conflict's 2023 Commencement

To provide context, the conflict between Israel and Hamas erupted when Hamas launched a large-scale surprise attack from the Gaza Strip on Israel on October 7, 2023. Several Israeli civilians were killed in the assault, and many were taken hostage by Hamas. In response, the Israeli military vowed to dismantle Hamas, carrying out extensive airstrikes in Gaza and subsequently launching military operations. According to Gaza's Ministry of Health data, the military actions have resulted in the deaths of 50,810 Palestinian civilians so far.
