Trump took to social media to criticize Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's handling of crime in the city, posting, "Chicago is the most terrible and dangerous city ever. Pritzker needs help, but doesn't realize it yet. I will solve the crime issue soon, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again—and shortly. Make America Great Again!"

Trump further remarked that "Chicago is the murder capital of the world," as gun violence persisted for a third consecutive weekend, igniting tensions between Trump and state officials. Pritzker had previously condemned Trump's threats to deploy federal agents or National Guard troops, calling such plans "unprecedented, illegal, and un-American."
