India has once again affirmed its role as a true ally to Afghanistan by being at the forefront in offering assistance following the devastating earthquake. Relief supplies are being dispatched promptly to aid the quake victims. This effort was highlighted by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, who confirmed the delivery of aid and assured continuous support in collaboration with his Afghan counterpart Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The 6.0 magnitude earthquake wreaked havoc in Afghanistan, claiming over 1400 lives and injuring more than 3000 people. The earthquake's epicenter was nearly 27 kilometers from Jalalabad in eastern Kunar province, extending 8 km deep into the ground.
The provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar experienced widespread devastation, with most village homes collapsing into debris. Rescue operations are ongoing at a rapid pace, with helicopters deployed to transport victims to hospitals.
India Steps Up with Extensive Aid
Sharing the relief mission on social media platform X, Foreign Minister Jaishankar announced that Indian relief materials have landed in Kabul. The supplies include blankets, tents, hygiene kits, water storage tanks, generators, kitchenware, portable water purifiers, sleeping bags, essential medicines, wheelchairs, hand sanitizers, water purification tablets, ORS solutions, and medical consumables.
