In an unfortunate tragedy in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, an 8-year-old boy named Shahrukh lost his life after falling into an open manhole. The police, upon receiving information, took custody of the body and sent it for postmortem. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against the contractor and supervisor by the department's engineer. Authorities state that further action is being taken in the matter.
As per reports, Shahrukh lived with his family in a homeless colony in Sector 10 of Jankipuram Extension, Jankipuram. His father, Shahabuddin, works in scrap dealing, and he lived with his mother and sisters, Khushboo, Mahak, and Saina. Shahrukh was returning from school with his sisters to get a share of the sacred feast when this tragic incident occurred.
The children were on their way when suddenly, Shahrukh plummeted into a manhole that was left uncovered in the middle of the street. Despite his sisters' cries for help and attempts to pull him out, they lost grip of his hand. Passersby alerted the police by calling 112. The police arrived swiftly and summoned the NDRF. Fire brigade vehicles were also called to the site, but it took three hours before the child could be extracted.
Following the incident, Shahrukh was admitted to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead. According to Nagar Commissioner Indrajeet Singh, the manhole was left open, and the area was inspected. An FIR has been registered against the area's contractor and supervisor, and the proceedings are ongoing.
