Some Individuals Rode Bicycles onto the Bridge
A rescue operation member stated that the mission is ongoing, and a few people have been saved. While it's not certain, it's feared that 20-25 individuals are trapped beneath the bridge debris. Following the Orange Alert issued in Pune, popular tourist spots like Bhushi Dam and Lonavala in Maval Taluka were closed last week and will remain so until August 31. Consequently, crowds thronged nearby tourist spots. Being a Sunday, about 100 to 120 people gathered at the spot to observe the rising flow of the Indrayani River. Some even brought their two-wheelers onto the bridge, adding to its load. It's believed the excessive weight led to the bridge's collapse. Reports suggest that about 20 to 25 people might have been swept away. An NDRF team is reaching the spot.
